You know, I'm just not a big Jerry Lewis fan. I certainly can appreciate his contribution to the world of comedy and, really, he does have some good moments but all in all, a little too slapsticky for me. This is a pretty silly film. But worth a look at least for the scene at the beatnik coffee house. This takes place about an hour in when our hapless alien Kreton. played by Lewis is taken to "The Hungry Brain" as part of his observations of Earthling culture. There doesn't seem to be a general consensus among the beatniks. Some of them seem to think he's pretty far out in his metallic space suit and some others call him a kook.
The band which features Buddy Rich and an uncredited Jack Costanzo on bongos seem to be under the impression that he's a musician and ask him to sit in with the band. After a little spaceman style bongo playing, Barbara Lawson performs a really hip little scat number called Desdemona's Lament which you'll be able to hear in the upcoming Dreamsville Show. After that she and Lewis let loose with some beatnik style interpretive dance, and that's it for the beatnik scene. Light comedy, if you like that sort of thing, check it out.

"This is a very sad story, you see it's all about a girl who fell in love with a no-good ratnik,
