Saw this on ebay, It's a menu from The Cup Of Socrates which was a beatnik espresso house in the 50's. It's going for $50 so I won't be getting it but I thought the cover design was pretty cool.
I remember the neo-coffee house "boom" of the early '90s. The one I went to--once--had the Rhino Kerouac box set playing nonstop. The joint closed some months later after a drive-by shooting...
I can only wonder what going to one in the '50s must've been like. :(
My Dad remembers a Beatnik club in Detroit call "The Hungry Eye". He took a friend who lived in the middle of nowhere in northern michigan and the scene there flipped her out.
