The Asphalt Jungle - John Huston - 1950

The first film noir that I ever saw and remains one of my favorites today. John Hustons classic The Asphalt Jungle. Go find a copy, it's excellent. Amazing cast - Marilyn Monroe at the beginning of her career, ultimate tough guy Sterling Hayden, James Whitmore, Sam Jaffe and more make this a great gritty film about "The city under the city"
"Gus...Gus. What time did this punk come in here ?"
"Don't ask me, I don't watch the clock, I own the place."

"Handley, William alias Dix Handley
    age:36
born: Kentucky
occupation: none
arrested 1937: illegal possession of firearms, sentenced 1-5, escaped state prison 1939, arrested 1940, released 1941."

A fixation for pretty girls.

"Smart cat. Never does a lick of work, stays out all night, sleeps all day."
"What's a big dirty cat doing in an eatin' joint ? I run over one every time I get a chance."

"My eyelash is comin' off"

"I had the market send over some salt mackerel for you. I know how you love it for breakfast."

"The way I figure, my lucks just gotta turn. One of these days I'll make a real killing and than I'm gonna head for home. First thing I do when I get there, I take a bath in the creek, get the city dirt off me."

"Experience has taught me never to trust a policeman. Just when you think one's alright, he turns legit."

Blowing the safe

"He's got no say, he makes a crooked move, he'll never pitch another forkful of manure."

"Why is it always you ? Whenever Louie gets into trouble, you're around."

"The commissioner's  mad, he's out for blood, and it's not going to be mine."

"Imagine me on this beach here, in my green bathing suit...Yipe!"

"Fink, Fink ! You're gonna wind up in the morgue, you dirty fink !"

"I don't want a gun, thank you. I haven't carried a gun since my 20's. You carry a gun, you shoot a policeman. A bad rap, hard to beat."

"That square head, he's a funny little guy."

"You can't go without me, I won't let you. I won't tell you where the car is."
